• Prep clay by weight.
• Throwing the pottery (3-5 minutes depending on the piece)
• Trimming the piece (2-3 minutes) creating a nice clean edged bottom
• Applying the Lake Superior and handles onto the different pieces (10 minutes –including prepping the lakes and handles in advanced)
• Drying time (usually about a week)
• Loading the kiln and setting it to a Bisque fire (approx. 9 hours)
• Prepping bisqueware for glazing, waxing areas: bottoms and sometimes the lakes to resist the glaze from sticking. (2-5 minutes depending on the piece)
• Glazing the inside of the pottery (mugs, tumblers, bowls, etc) then letting them dry. (overnight)
• Glazing the outside of the pottery
• Wiping the bottoms to make sure there is no glaze that will stick to the kiln shelf(It takes me 2 days to glaze and prep everything from one kiln load)
• Loading the kiln with the glazed pieces. The firing takes about 8.5 hours but about 15 hours to cool down enough to unload the kiln
• We're done :)

I use manufactured clay from the Pottery Supply House in Oakville Ontario. I use a variety of stoneware, including white, speckled, red and dark granite.

Throwing pottery is the process of forming pots on the pottery wheel.
